PolycarbonateHouse (6) For us, low-cost doesn't mean to forget about the aesthetic performances as well as the emotional and sensitive features that mark the real difference between a house and a package device. It is for this reason that the house uses the peculiar performances of the different materials in order to go beyond its form, flying on sensations and emotions, exploration done through an innovative use of the standard polycarbonate material. It does not also mean thet its form is ignored. As Toyo Ito discussed with us, the matter of form becomes important than ever in the extent that 'how to make the form unexpressive' inorder to reveal the highest capacity of the materials, to make all the five senses go all together with the form. Given the special feature of the white polycarbonate, the house at night tranform itself into an urban lantern, a volume of light reflecting the shadows of the people living inside. As it was inspired by the homeless shelter setting in Tokyo, we have found ourselves living (or travelling) in the world more or less similar to these homeless. The house is presently looking for its next destination along with us; it could be Bangkok, Seoul, Rome or somewhere else upon our move, our next destination to be explored. |
