PolycarbonateHouse (2)

The reason why we built this house is linked to a real problem for the foreign community in Tokyo. Once our friends decided to visit Tokyo, they found that it was very difficult to find a place for them to live. (Of course our rokucho apartment can't fit them all). If you are a foreigner, to find a house (or a room) to rent for a week or two is almost an impossible task. But, since we are all architects, the solution was easy: if it is difficult to rent a house, we will then build a new one.
Once this decision was took, we had to develop a feasible project.
In a certain extent we can say our work starts from a close observation of the local environment. It is quite evident that the main reference is the incredible construction set by the homeless people along the Sumida River running nearby.
The other pretty obvious reference is the endless 'yatai' that grows everywhere in the Tokyo night. In our mind the homeless architecture is the striking edge of the contemporary architecture of Japan of the year 2000. Easy concept, flexibility, rationality and sharp intelligent as main ingredients.
